What is the Compton P-ESL method?
The Compton P-ESL method is a research-based accent modification course that helps the typical client to achieve at least a 50% increase in the clarity, accuracy, and effectiveness of their speech.
The program begins with a customized analysis of the individual's speech, which reveals exactly how their pronunciation varies from standard American English and identifies specific areas for concentration. It also provides the speech professional with information to determine whether a group or individual session would be best, as well as the number of sessions required.
During the sessions, we will teach our clients appropriate accent reduction techniques, as well as the basic sounds and principles of American English. The client will learn to:
- Hear the difference between sounds
- Pronounce new sounds using American English principles
- Use complete word production
- Project his or her voice appropriately
- Practice new speech skills in conversation and through presentations
Upon completion of the course, your speech is analyzed again and the results are compared with the initial analysis to determine the extent of the improvement. Past comparisons have shown that students who attend all the appropriate sessions and practice diligently can expect to experience at least a 50% change in their accent or dialect.
